Via Jayme Lynn Blaschke, I see that Gordon Cooper, one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts, has died. I find this very sad news, although the Mercury Seven are certainly getting on in years, with only three of them (John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, and Wally Schirra) still alive. As far as I am concerned, these guys -- and their Gemini and Apollo successors -- are explorers in the same sense as Columbus, Da Gama, Magellan, and all the rest. Their names deserve better than to be answers in "Trivial Pursuit".
