I've complained before about the prevalence of advertising these days, and the apparent belief that a moment in which we are not somehow pitched a product or made aware of a brand name is a moment wasted. I've always used, as my ultimate example, the presence of advertising on that little plastic rod you put on the conveyor belt in grocery stores to separate your order from the next person's, but I've just seen this one supplanted. If there's a context in life that should be advertising-free, surely that would be the one.
