Arrggghhhh.
It's amazing how much stuff you learn as a parent that you'd just as soon have lived your whole life not knowing at all.
Such as the original meaning of the term "nitpicking".
Grumble....

I had a similar experience last week. After an unfortunate blockage in our sewer line, I found myself literally using a rake on a puddle of muck. I was muckraking!

Oh, such fun! As a former camp counselor and public school teacher I can say I have seen my share. Sorry you are getting your share!
FWIW, the electric combs really do work, and often get the buggers before you could even see them with your own eyes.
