Halloween: cute costumes or scary costumes?

Scary requires effort to make work. You have to create an illusion that is more than a person wearing a hoodie and a punch and judy mask.

Sexy works if the person in the costume knows what makes them sexy and accentuates that with their costume.

There is a snow white costume that I have seen worn by BOTH Michelle Trachtenberg and a Michelle Trachtenberg look alike. That was the best Halloween costume I ever saw on a woman.

Plus you can't beat superhero cosplay when the person knows which hero they can portray to make the most realistic illusion of a live action superhero.

Only do POWERGIRL if you have the BODY of POWERGIRL. When it works, you just know.

I really don't like the horror aspect that this holiday has been given by marketers. Witches being portrayed as scary, old, and ugly hearkens back to the Burning Times and remembering our departed loved ones has become a ghoulish display of zombies and ghosts.

Cute costumes. Meaningful costumes. Fun costumes.

Cute and funny, especially if it's on a little kid. I'm really not down with the gory/gross scary costumes.

I'm also REALLY not down with the idea that every costume for woman should be prefaced by "sexy." Some of us do not work well as "sexy." Some of us could not be "sexy" no matter how hard we tried. Some of us don't want to look trashy/sexy, even as a dress-up.

Scary, or at least creepy, but not too gross. I don't get the cute Halloween costumes at all. It's just not appropriate. Halloween is supposed to be scary and creepy.
