I read it in High School, and then picked it up again when I had a newborn. I could not read it with a newborn, and since then, I've really had to screen my King choices (I read "The Stand" after this happened, for example)
I agree, however, it is seminal and fabulous, even if I will never read it again.
I couldn't recommend it to The Wife, for that exact reason. That first scene is extremely visceral, when you've experienced some of the things we've been through.
