Probably both. Cutlass for the Cutlass for the majority of the work. Not pretty but a larger blade, fairly efficient,Handles most workloads. Sort of the minivan of battle cutlery. Rapier is for the formal occasion. Looks good, not the most versatile in my opinion, but it goes good with a tux and the ladies like 'em!
A cutlass is a brute force weapon for a brute. A rapier is precise and classy and acessorizes a outfit wonderfully. Since I am a civilized person I gotta go with the rapier.

Cutlass, defenitely. That's a sword for a man! A pirate man! Not like those effeminate, swishy ladymen who use rapiers.
The rapier strikes just a bit before a cutlass in the same situation, and I need every advantage that I can get.

My phobia about swords knows no bounds...
