A Random Wednesday Conversation Starter
I may have asked this one before...but anyway. You have a time machine which will allow you to see one, and only one, Broadway show in history, location and cast of your choice. Which one do you go see?
OMGosh, you're lucky and I'm jealous - on both counts. I love Yul Bryner, but I've only seen him in movies. I loved him in the movie "The King and I."
You're lucky on the Julie Andrews, too. She won a Tony for that role, and I bet she deserved it. I LOVE the movie version of Victor/Victoria. Garner and Andrews have great chemistry in that. Thought she would make an adorable Eliza from "My Fair Lady," too, which is why I'd love to see it.
@ Mimi:
Well, if it's anywhere/anytime/any production:
- In plays, the premiere Shakespeare's "Titus" at the Globe with Queen Elizabeth in attendance (just to see the look on her face)
- In opera, the original productions of: Carmen, Die Fledermaus, Gioachino Rossini's La Cenerentola or Gounod's Faust
- In general: One of the lost plays of Sophocles at the theater in Alexandria. And make a night of it: dine on the Mediterranean on some REALLY authentic Egyptian-Greek fusion cuisine. Sleep in and then spend the next day perusing the Great Library. :-)

I would love to see Yul in 'The King and I' when he was at his full power.
I go back to 1956 and see Rosalind Russell in Lawrence and Lee's "Mame".
Damn. Should have proofread myself. I meant I'd...
Some top picks for me, depending on my mood:
- The 1980s "Phantom of the Opera" with Michael Crawford
- The late 1950s "My Fair Lady" with Julie Andrews
- The 1990s "Victor/Victoria," also with Julie Andrews
Original cast of West Side Story.
I saw Yul Brenner in one of his last performances in The King and I. It was astounding!
I was also happy to see Julie Andrews in one of her last performances of Victor/Victoria. That too was a thrill of a lifetime.
I am not much of a Broadway Show person, but I'd love to travel back in time and see the premiere of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" ballet by Najinsky.
"Macbeth" with Laurence Olivier.
