A Random Wednesday Conversation Starter

Do you listen to podcasts? If so, which ones, and why?

Yes, this is a thinly-veiled solicitation for suggestions. I already listen to a few, but I wouldn't mind finding more. I listen to the podcasts on the Trending Buffalo site (some of my favorite local commentary comes from this site), The Human Bible (endlessly fascinating if a secular take on the Bible is your thing), and I've listened to Neil DeGrasse Tyson's Star Talk podcast (although that one has ads inside it, which kind of bugs me, especially when I'm listening in the car and can't access my tablet to skip past the ads). Oh, and I listen to Night Vale, so I'm aware of that one.

For new music, I love The Current Song of the Day and KEXP's Song of the Day.

For current pop culture, you can't beat Pop Culture Happy Hour. Nerd Lunch is another one of my favorites. It often has a nostalgic take, but also talks about recent stuff.

The SlashFilmcast is my favorite movie review podcast, but I also dig I Hate/Love Remakes for its very specific focus. James Bonding is a great, funny exploration of the Bond films.

For mainstream comics (though that means more than just Marvel and DC), I recommend Pop Culture Hound. For art comics, it's Comic Books Are Burning in Hell.

Finally, if you're into audio books, The Classic Tales podcast has excellent readings of classic adventure literature.

Most of the podcasts I listen to tend towards the light entertainment (& personality-driven) end of the pool. For example:

Totally Married/Totally Laime, a pair of fun podcasts hosted by a married couple. The first is about marriage (theirs and in general), the other is pop-culture guest based.

Who Charted? looks at chart-toppers of the week with the magical Kulap Vilaysack, the..."unique" Howard Kremer, and a guest.

You Made It Weird w/Pete Holmes, aka the guy with a new show after Conan. Dunno what that'll be like, but the podcast (interviews) is long, rambly, and funny.

Doug Loves Movies, a celebrity-studded, stoner-hosted game/talk show, or talk/game show. Also How Did This Get Made?, probably the best of the many "bad movie" podcasts (Flop House is good too).

KELLY!!!!!!! I miss you man!!!!! To answer your question, I'm a financial nerd and proud of it!!!!! EVERY lunch break I listen to my Dave Ramsey podcast. When I drive to work it's PTI (so I am up to speed with my sports from the previous day) and then Clark Howard. HA!!!!! I have it down to podcast times from how long it takes to get to work. 1 pti and 1/2 of Clark!!! OH and I also download the B.S report (Bill Simmons) because he has some great guests on there and I love his mix of sports and pop culture. OKIE DOKIE! Enough procrastinating, I need to paint my front door now...
