Veterans: heroes who should be honored, or...well, that's it. There's just one option on that one.
Thanks to all the veterans out there for their service.

Sorry to mess up the lilth fair of pandering, but there actually IS a debate here. Namely who should we call a veteran.
I had a boss once who never, and I mean never let anyone ever forget he spent 20 years in the Marine Corps. This mother would strut his fat butt around like he was Sargent York reincarnated. He served after Vietnam was over and retired around the time of the first gulf war. Never once did he ever see any kind of action.
Despite this he had no problem bragging about how his health care as a military retiree, was better than ours, or practicing the techniques of discipline through humiliation that he learned in the "corps"
Honor people who saw no action on Veterans day?
NO
This day is reserved for those who put there life on line. Let the rest be honored on Bureaucrat Day.
Sorry I meant to say he retired after the first gulf war but since he was well ensconced as a keeper of the copy machine by then he had no chance on going to the 2 week war.
TEoO, As a former military man who didn't see any action, I would agree with you, but for this one thing: though I only served in the National Guard, and though I never saw active duty aside from my training, a decorated combat veteran whom I greatly repect said to me, "Shit, boy. You wore the uniform, you had an ID card. You're a vet."

Heroes who should be honoured and apologised to - and given a promise that we'll do our best not to do that sort of thing again.

I'm inclined to agree w Sam Kelly. That old adage about studying war no more...
A combat vet has the final call. Still hard to swallow though.
