Addendum to my post about yesterday's NFL games below: according to some NFL big-wig, the refs really did blow the call at the end of the 49ers-Giants game. Apparently the receiver really was eligible, so it really was pass-interference; and apparently the holder on the kick really couldn't have spiked the ball, because spiking is only allowed on a direct snap from the center and not on a long-snap.

What seems weird to me is that you can apparently report to the refs before the game, and say that you will line up as an eligible receiver on all field goals. I guess that was the Giants' safety valve all along, but if that was the case, why didn't Jim Fassel make a huge stink about it as the game ended?
