Both. I rake them from the driveway onto the lawn, and that's where they stay. Hey, it's free mulch!
I rake 'em because The Wife wants them raked. I think it's incredibly unnecessarily, both environmentally and aesthetically.
A few passes with the lawnmower to mulch them a bit and then leave them. I find if I just leave them, I have vast swaths of mud, but chopping them a bit allows the underlying grass to poke through.
Mow 'em.
