for me a tie, the old and the new: Father Brown of Chesterton's books and Aloysius X. L. Pendergast from my favorite series , written by Preston and Lincoln Child.
Oooo tough one. My first instinct was to say Kate Beckett, probably because Castle is the most recent police show I've watched. There are other contenders though. I'm really into Almost Human right now and really like those guys.
While I want to say Sherlock Holmes, I have to be honest and say Lovejoy, by Jonathan Gash. As far as reading goes, it's Holmes, but I prefer Lovejoy as a character.

ReplyDeleteSherlock Holmes.
ReplyDeleteHard choice. Either Nero Wolfe or Albert Campion.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know, two very different characters, but they both have their enjoyable aspects.
Columbo. "Just one more thing..."
ReplyDeletePhillip Marlowe

ReplyDeleteHolmes.
ReplyDeleteAxel Foley (if only for the theme song!) and Basil of Baker St.
ReplyDeleteWilliam of Baskerville, though I feel I should also mention Dirk Gently as a delight!
ReplyDeleteWilliam of Baskerville... or Elijah Baley. I can't decide.
ReplyDeleteSpenser.
ReplyDeleteLord Darcy.
ReplyDeleteBut Harry Dresden is a close second.
