Odd, perceptions, eh? I swear, one day I will reread this book successfully. This review, and another one linked to by Elizabeth at BW have me thinking about Lions again for the first time in a while. Maybe after I finish my current reread the Ringworld series.Call me Paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17704646008578216859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3338557.post-9663943091384064132010-02-07T14:46:08.986-05:002010-02-07T14:46:08.986-05:00Today is super bowl Sunday...12 years ago I was si...Today is super bowl Sunday...12 years ago I was sitting in a delivery room, waiting for my first child to be born. This was monumental for me as all I had ever wanted to be in life was a present, excellent (to the best of my ability) Daddy to my children. There was much to be of distraction to me - my first child coming into the world, the super bowl being played later that afternoon (she was born during 2nd quarter), doctors/nurses coming in and out, my wife's monitors beeping loudly...and all I was doing, all I could do, is revel more and more into the storyline depicted in The Lions Of Al-Rassan.

I like to think of myself as a middling poet and lyricist, a striving author, but no one intimidates me in writing like GGK...I was first introduced to his work through the wonderful Tigana, which I've read numerous times. But as great and all-encompassing Tigana is, The Lions Of Al-Rassan resonates as my favorite GGK work above all else.

12 years later, I have re-read that book twice more - when my other daughter and son came into this world...I have played the same music in the delivery room, and have had the same romantic, tragic, touching, inspiring, and awesome story wheeling through my head during the quiet times of their delivery.

No more kiddies for me, but i am looking forward to reading this work with my children and sharing in that magnificent story with them...GGK is the King, and I consider this his finest work as it means so much to me and my family personally. Thanks so much, GGK!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3338557.post-35880572499320558032010-02-06T22:36:28.001-05:002010-02-06T22:36:28.001-05:00For me it's the combination of book and author...For me it's the combination of book and author. I can't seperate the two. Aldous Huxely - Brave New World and Dune by Frank Herbert. Huxely was the first one to blow my mind and Herbert kept it that way. Plus Herbert created the best stand alone universe in Sci-Fiction - developed in a way totally unlike anything any of us would imagine. No book satisfied me and took me to a new place like Dune did.Cal's Canadian Cave of Coolnesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08408150910056369989noreply@blogger.com
