I find that many of the reasons I love the movies comes from his passion for the medium. I always appreciated that he was so great at explaining to me WHY a movie was bad. He also was never afraid to like something because it was popular. I can't stand the male critic (Ignati) they have on Ebert's show now. He is such a smug film elitist. If something wasn't made in France and can be understood he wants nothing to do with it. Those kinds of critics make me crazy.Cal's Canadian Cave of Coolnesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08408150910056369989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3338557.post-84055449440732221542012-01-17T20:47:29.714-05:002012-01-17T20:47:29.714-05:00I like you love him as a writer not just a critic....I like you love him as a writer not just a critic. Even movies he didn't like that I did I often know why he didn't, I think that is cool. This book just jumped to the top of my must read non-fiction list. This was back when Gene Siskel was still alive. He was much shorter than I thought he'd be, he was ghastly pale and his lips were purple and I remember thinking that he was not long for this world. Yet here he still is, despite everything. The copy of his book that he signed for me is still in my bookshelf. I rarely pull it out. Just knowing that it is there is enough.M. D.
