I basically enjoy them, but think all three would've benefited from being shorter and tighter, especially the third one. (I hate to say it, but I found myself checking my watch more than once during that one.) Also, for all the supernatural stuff going on in any individual frame, they're somehow lacking in any real sense of wonder, at least for me.

That said, however, Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush are both utterly delightful in their roles, and it's so refreshing to have some charming rogues on the big screen for a change, after a decade or more of mopey "chosen ones who don't really want to be chosen" type protagonists.

Regarding this fourth installment, I really enjoyed the Tim Powers novel this one was supposedly based on (although I suspect precious little of the book actually got into the movie, and the option deal was mostly for the use of the title and the premise), and Penelope Cruz looks most, erm, fetching in piratical attire.

All of which is way too lengthy a way of saying, yes, I too am looking forward to Pirates 4.Jasonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11001416935247782462noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3338557.post-47359457390073929802010-12-15T09:14:46.164-05:002010-12-15T09:14:46.164-05:00OMG!
