The Law of Song Interruptions

"In any establishment that uses music piped in over speakers, the number of pages by employees on the PA system, thus interrupting the song, varies directly with the quality of the song being played at any given moment."

In other words, when Elton's "Tiny Dancer" or Jim Croce's "Operator" come on, suddenly everybody in the store is paging everybody else, and the song can't be heard except for a few brief snippets between pages. But Petula Clark's "Downtown", which makes me want to claw the eyes out of any conveniently located bunny rabbit whenever I hear it? Oh, that song is never interrupted by people paging other people.

Oy.
